First season Leslie Knope was the best incarnation of the character.
It was a darker show then, and she was more like a David Brent

Yeah, that patheticness was what made the character interesting.

As a constantly failing striver, she was acceptable. But then she kept winning and smiling, eventually living out her dreams. Those aren’t the people any of us need to watch succeed
