late 40s! I had a job as an assistant at the national library of medicine one summer in the early 90s; I spoke to a scholar who was writing a book about right wing media bias. He mentioned Hume specifically.

I remember watching Hume on ABC, several years as WH correspondent, when Jennings was anchor. No doubt a bit right of center then, but kept in check.
