I stridently oppose the current exploitative circumstances endured by freelance writers, but I don’t see how this bill does anything besides make it harder for those in California to earn a living. Companies simply won’t hire Cali-based freelancers, and/or competition will soar.https://twitter.com/THR/status/1185627447485702146 …

Yeah after 15 years of freelancing getting a salaried job with benefits allowed me to focus on doing work I loved rather than scrabbling for every $50 hot take. It’s brutal out there.

The take trenches make so many people look so foolish for so very little. I'd rather kick in whatever tax payments are needed to ensure everybody has a good basic income, so they could write meaningful stuff for themselves/friends, or nothing at all if their hearts aren't in it

Once my book is out I will definitely have to recalibrate—I want to write others, for sure, but in the meantime only freelancing is not enough. I also need some sort of corporate copywriting gig if I can’t go in house somewhere, and obvs who can depend on that happening?
