      people ask why i reference this phrase so much. it's because i once asked someone what he was reading and he replied "reading? nah, we kids do the work" and then rattled off some titles of 50-page verso books and thumbsucking "left press" hot takes ("here's the work we do now")

      I’ve never had to ask what it meant because the phenomenon it references is so culturally apparent. But I like the origin story :)
