hey...is it just me or are the "kids" out there "doing the work?"
people ask why i reference this phrase so much. it's because i once asked someone what he was reading and he replied "reading? nah, we kids do the work" and then rattled off some titles of 50-page verso books and thumbsucking "left press" hot takes ("here's the work we do now")
i was amazed, and remain amazed, that in a certain extremely online little corner of brooklyn, this constituted "doing the work" (it wasn't exactly w2 or even 1099 labor, like most of us slobs and suckers do)

playing video games isn't work (unless you're a Pro or a Streamer) but reading takes about video games...that's doing the work
I'm happy I sold a video game story to the Paris Review that didn't reference GamerGate even once, because that seems to still be a prerequisite for "hooking" mainstream media to coverage of games
