Today's dispute got me thinking: in the past you had to have some level of technical proficiency or knowledge to be a "nerd". You knew how to solder, operate an amateur radio, or you knew way too much about moths. In 2019 it is entirely about consuming pop culture products.

If you’ve grown up unable to build yr own computer, close a simple circuit, connect batteries in series or parallel, work a multimeter, wire a ballast or LED light, change brake pads or a tire, do simple soldering, etc. and you fancy yourself a nerd, you are a TV recapper at best

My older brother’s visiting and he was talking about the time he swapped a 302 small block engine into a boat he had acquired back when he was 15 and running the parts department at our dad’s car dealership, and once upon a time that might be considered nerdy. Today it’s Batman
