I was raised in working class NJ. Never liked Springsteen. Found his depiction of blue collar life ripe with projected self pity. Sure, some of the people I grew up with were unhappy (as in all social groups) but the majority weren't angst ridden sad sacks. Quite the contrary.

His music didn't start off like that.

interesting to see such divisive opinions about the "boss." i found most of his post-nebraska work to be pretty bleak, but i didn't really care for any of it, although i did enjoy learning about real-life characters like the "chicken man."

russ is right about "TDS" tho'. my favorite manifestations of TDS come when trump goes against some vicious right-wing hawk or promises to meet with an enemy that would've won a previous president the nobel prize. he converts libs to the center-right without their realizing it!

a different problem. things were "okay" then, it was "all right," we just needed "nudges" from cass sunstein et al. in one direction or another. we had overcome so much.
