Folks who have edited me know that my stuff arrives in a mostly finished form, and the rest is just about rearranging things or giving the readers more of what they need

I can write 3000 words in 4-5 hours, but I can't write those same words in 12...if they're not written almost all at once they'll never see the light of day

How do you do it? Detailed outlines? Refusing to revise until it's done? I can barely manage 1,000 in 4-5 hours before I'm spent. My life would be infinitely easier if I could triple that.

I think about it all day, talk about it with friends on gchat, and then type the picture I've got in my mind into Google docs. The extraction process is brief but intense. I'm exhausted today after knocking out a draft of a 3000 word history of bloodletting in wrestling last nite
