"buried in email...just digging out" isn't a great excuse if that's your excuse every single day of the week. You might want to get better with email. And I say that as someone who responds to 150, maybe 200 emails a day.

Oh sure but accounts may be ignoring the editor. Emails was only a problem at AMS, an academic press. Money wasn't expected.
I will never pester anyone about emails if money isn't at stake.

Well, tenure and promotion committees need to see publication, and the publisher had a habit of sitting on stuff until he was ready. So money was kind of involved, just not from the company.
