"buried in email...just digging out" isn't a great excuse if that's your excuse every single day of the week. You might want to get better with email. And I say that as someone who responds to 150, maybe 200 emails a day.

"Buried in email" is a classic editor move, though. Many of are so "buried" that they'll let a piece sit from November to September (this has happened to me!) while still responding to your various looping around/checking in/etc. emails letting you know that they're "digging out"

Yeah, I always side-eyed folks who pulled this excuse--especially when I followed them on social media and read the 20+ tweets they had time for that afternoon.
