"buried in email...just digging out" isn't a great excuse if that's your excuse every single day of the week. You might want to get better with email. And I say that as someone who responds to 150, maybe 200 emails a day.

Yeah, I always side-eyed folks who pulled this excuse--especially when I followed them on social media and read the 20+ tweets they had time for that afternoon.

If I hadn't replied by the end of the day in which you emailed me, you should have reminded me the next day, unless you were constantly emailing me about an issue that I had already told you I had no power to resolve and that I would inform you when the publisher made a decision.

I think if the draft's been commissioned, delivered, and you're due $500 after publication, a weekly reminder is in order, especially if it's been sitting there for eight months and they solicited it in the first place
