If you're really from a small town, you always say how close you are to a bigger town or city. "I live in ____. It's near Ottawa.

it was the same when i lived in whitefish mt and people identified by how far they were from a "major metro" like kalispell, missoula, helena, with "stopover cities" like polson, havre, and columbia falls breaking them up a bit
