See, I feel like I have the opposite issue; grew up in a city of about 75,000 people, but because it's - 1) In the south 2) Not directly outside of a major metropolitan area - lots of people I know in NYC seem think I'm from "small town, rural America"
yes, that's another category, "hey [person who vaguely fits in category], please speak ex cathedra for [insert group]"
