I don’t think it’s helpful to belittle the value of people’s work or their willingness to take risks in order to do the job they actually want. The market sucks and people can’t claim nobody told them, but this is punching down.

I’m sorry about that. Nobody deserves what the job market is doing to people’s lives. But work in linguistics and other fields have value. This comes off as belittling their value. Sorry if this is you blowing off steam and I’m taking it the wrong way.

my entire life to date has put a lie to any value i hoped to extract from the work i did. it was all a big waste; i'm my own ghost, sleeping in dracula's crypt, turning my thoughts into content (and working a day job)
