I’d differ on root canals. I had an unfortunate encounter with an olive pit, toughed it out overnight and then went to a dentist. Halfway through, he said, “Have to start over. I screwed up, jet-lagged.” Thanks!

They’re needed occasionally but not in nearly the volume some are doing them — some dentists are averaging a root canal a tooth per patient, and many work with lenders to finance all that crap.
