      It's vital that we don't distract ourselves from the things that really matter in life: being perpetually 23 years old. Most importantly, spend that abundant free time fighting tooth-and-nail for the people who did this shit to us in the first place

      I'm sure that's all true. Absent family we will be reliant on our neighbors and without that same infrastructure, caring for our elderly parents (who had fewer children to share the load) will take up more time.

      I feel like this whole chapter is applicable here, and accurate. That the more we choose the people we see and spend time with, the more divorced from humanity we become. The less likely we are to be able to understand or care for others, besides those that mirror us

      The one thing I'll say about my mom's family is that I agree with them on very little except being willing to drop everything at a moment's notice to help someone who is related to me merely by an accident of blood. Even the people in my generation are like that

      They would come out at 4 am to unclog your drain but they wouldn't ask you a single question about your hobbies or interests or other childish signifiers
