I'd love to know what movie screenings he went to where popcorn and soda were free- I've never once seen that.

oh man, there were several corporate chain theaters in the Triangle area that gave you coupons for that ... you could cut them right out of the free newsweeklies. Never the Rialto or the Colony, the art houses, though. They charged you for everything.
