I’ve said it before, but being mentored in college by a local film critic who slept through “screeners” then used the write-ups from national papers as the outline for his own reviews...changed the course of my life

And once I began making some side dough writing under other people’s bylines, I realized it was just one big joke on me, the idiot who actually does the work, unlike the “kids” who merely “do the work” (of claiming to do the work)

Elmer Gantry is a fun old book, but the real point of it has nothing to do with religion...when Gantry is just rambling about business and asked if he believes in god, well, that could apply to any of these various “creatives” who actually detest creative work
