I have never had the time or money to chase “that one beautiful sentence” creative nonfiction/literary fiction people allegedly spending months pursuing. I almost never work past a second draft. But my copy arrives on time and my invoices are flawless.

Coming from a family largely bereft of resources, in which most of the males kick off in their 50s due to heart attacks, “had we but world enough and time” is pretty much my default state

I did want to sell fiction, as opposed to writing it merely as a “guilty pleasure”, and I briefly studied in Montana’s MFA program before law school. And now I do sell fiction, to @MUGGER1955 , who appreciates it and lets me avoid compromises I’m unwilling to make
