Commenting on experiences, especially ones willingly consumed, isn't so much hate as a way of passing the time (or making money, if you can sell them as essays). Having true "feels" about the monoculture and its products is a more terrifying prospect by far.

Like even as a kid the idea that you could truly "love" the Ghostbusters or the Ninja Turtles or some such thing struck me as risible. Ways to waste the time, sure, but so are mowing the grass and praying the rosary and I didn't get down with that ish either

I do have genuine affection for certain cultural artifacts, like "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" or "She's So Unusual," but I wouldn't go to the mattresses defending them, either
