C) get rid of "timely" fiction like the Art of Fielding because that stuff ages like cheap wine D) get rid of scholarly books you're not using for some purpose (the stuff that appears regularly in my essays and features is sticking around E) get rid of public domain stuff

An exception to rule E is if the public domain work is in a fancy volume with good critical essays or a translation by some heavy hitter like Robert Graves

I had four copies of The Corrections, two of the James Frey book and its worse follow-up, the Art of Fielding in both an ARC and review copy, probably a half dozen dog eared copies of the Canterbury Tales, and half of a copy (the spine broke) of an SJ Perelman collection
