Of course, I guess some of these people don't even mind:pic.twitter.com/vKrCbRI61g
Why do people even think following someone is a sort of endorsement or alliance? What even counts as an endorsement or an alliance? An effect of an almost purely symbolic politics is that the issue of whether something *causes* something good or bad is almost never even broached.
Social media is to politics like what the Chinese room is to language. We see in front of us a million tiny flags and we're scolded if we wave the wrong ones. Nobody can quite tell us how the flags connect to the outside world and why some are good and some bad.
Or maybe it's more like Plato's Cave. Everything that happens in here is just a shadow of real political events, with various dimensions lost and our eyes always cast in the wrong direction. Yet we pretend like being in the right or wrong "network" has this immense significance.
I follow people on here because I report on them. Does my follow of, say, Colby Covington constitute an endorsement of his politics? No, I just need to track mma for work and he's always stirring up trouble. Probably 25% of my follows are for that reason
Twitter's just a shortcut to easy and admittedly lazy "coverage" of things. If I actually covered the "Twitter beat" (thank goodness I don't), whatever screenshots you're posting could constitute "news," and then I'd need to follow all the involved parties for "due diligence"
