Jon Favreau (the director, not the speechwriter) fighting Tank Abbott on an episode of Friends is about as strange as it got for 90s cameos

I've written about Vader on Boy Meets World and Baywatch, but Vader in mainstream terms was a nobody and those were crappy shows. Abbott was a sorta-somebody on a hit show, and Favreau was in his thinner but still apple-cheeked "supporting actor" days

It's fascinating that Favreau and fellow director Peter Berg (The Great White Hype) were frequently playing these tomato can athletes in the pre "actors take peds to prepare for roles" days.

Back before actors really discovered better living through chemicals supplied by the "pads" of sympathetic doctors, it is amazing how unathletic so many leading men playing actors looked. e.g., Ryan O'Neal, a handsome fellow with a neck like a stack of dimes, in The Main Event

That's why it was shocking to see actors with legit athletic backgrounds not looking like garbage in those roles. James Caan, who had played college ball, has way better running form than Billy Dee Williams in Brian's Song. Burt Reynolds & Nick Nolte were fine as football players

Or compare Elvis Presley in trunks as Kid Galahad versus, say, shirtless Burt Lancaster, a 6'2" former circus acrobat

My dad, who could do 2-3 strict form pull-ups at 300 lbs well into his 50s, used to complain all the time when you get a camera angle that shows, say, Matt Damon in that Nelson Mandela rugby movie banging out pull-ups without showing us his legs. It infuriated him
