Honestly, a generation reared on YouTube spit takes and totally shameless selling of the personal lifestyle brand (zero fucks given about "selling out") is going to enter some kind of 1980s-style "work is good and greed is better" mode sooner than we could possibly imagine

The leftism of the current moment may seem refreshing and new -- inevitable even -- but I think it is likely to be dragged beneath the current of this "Me Generation 2.0" that would trade zero public services for zero taxes on their 1099 earnings

The resulting future will likely be one in which every kind of lifestyle brand is permitted, provided you can buy enough tokens to enter that tier of fun and self actualization. It'll be much like today, I suppose, but without as many repercussions for Jackos, Singers, Hasterts

Of course that's true of the surface, but kids (& ghosts on the waiting list) who care about the surface aesthetically (=viscerally) know the best parts are mostly submerged, & don't need it mapped for them by the experts who discovered the Zeitgeist in the middle ground.

"Experts..." is not directed at you, for what that isn't worth: point is just that intense involvement in the surface (esp. but not exclusive on the part of "kids") entails hyperspecialism & prizes some "obscurities", & that this is NOT "snobbery"/"irrelevance".
