One of the weirdest things about Twitter, especially media Twitter, is that you always find yourself developing a kind of myopia related to journalism...journalism becomes the single most important profession in the history of humankind, and you can't think otherwise

I care about journalism and writing, yes, but only as a means for people to take care of themselves. I use my writing to help pay my bills and work hard at staying on top of contacts, stories, invoices, and taxes. I harbor no illusions I'm doing the lord's work

I used to want to write "beautiful sentences" but years passed and I either did that or I didn't (more likely the latter). Now I just want to get mine before I get got -- before paid writing shrinks down to nothing at all -- and I want everyone else to be taken care of, too

The Jill Abramson stuff is stupid, and she's obviously a lazy old well-off person, but who on earth would task her (or anyone else) with opining about the future of journalism? Give me a break. The only thing that requires more chutzpah is believing you should be president

Imagine going to a doctor and instead of being treated, that old fool opines about the future of medicine for two hours
