journalism as writing one "exquisite" and "polished" NYT Mag piece per year ... gossamer sentences imbricated one atop the other like the scales of a fish ... nice work if you can get it (and don't need to work for a living)
i write only "beautiful things" ... i hold out for the "prestige bylines" ... there's a lot of "heat" around my unpublished manuscript so i'm "fielding offers from agents" ... there's talk of an "auction"
