One would think we’d have more sophisticated methods of establishing identity than we had in the days when we relied on people carrying “papers” with them at all times.

We have states that thinking matching name and birthdate is a unique enough match to prove non-citizenship... Sigh.

Actually, that’s completely acceptable. Over an 18 year period the government made an average of 157 mistakes each year. That’s a win. Though your dates aren’t entirely lining up, it looks like their error rate was around 5%. That’s better than most polls.

I would hope our error rate on deporting actual US citizens is far lower than our error rate on political polls.
