For every American living on the street, there are 13 empty, off-market homes and apartments. In Oakland, there are nearly four vacant properties for every homeless person. It’s not so much an issue of scarcity, but of distribution. https://mojo.ly/2q07Psm pic.twitter.com/vEuQ5gQYIl

I think that squatting all the empty luxury apartments in Los Angeles should be next. House hoarding should be illegal.

Instead of “funding” for a dumb wall; American politicians could fund abandoned homes and offer them to homeless people for a low affordable mortgage.

How about this: If you can’t rent an apartment after 6 months, you have to offer it to a homeless family. The net result would be to drive rents down to encourage renting, which helps everyone.

The Bolsheviks solved the problem of empty apartments by nationalizing them and quickly ended up with a handy solution of three families living in three bedroom apartments.

I became homeless from illness, HUD Housing 4 the Homeless gave me an apt. My illness got worse, tumors, 99 lbs, ER. I was living in a water damaged building + @SurvivingMold. Figured it out, they left me to die. Luckily, I still had half a brain left, got out, and detoxing now.pic.twitter.com/IrIHLw7RG9
