Too bad Mother Jones got it wrong. You can't switch parties just to vote in a primary but first-time voters can register and do so. Why in the world would anyone consider it a good idea for folks to party jump just before a primary?

It is more like keeping Trumpbots from using a primary vote to keep a strong Democrat off the ballot or vice versa. Does not keep voters from voting just from jumping parties.

Not entirely true. Those who aren't registered at all, can register now as Dems and vote in the Dem primary. But yes, NY State has ridiculous voter laws.
