Just a reminder that in Illinois, COVID deaths in nursing homes account for 46% of all of the COVID deaths in the state. Nursing homes account for about 0.4% of the total population. Outside of Cook County, nursing homes deaths are 65% of the total.

In DuPage County, 30% of all COVID cases are in nursing homes, and 82% of all COVID deaths in the county are in nursing homes. There have been just 45 COVID deaths in Dupage County outside of a nursing home, in a county of 1 million people.

Digging deeper in DuPage County ... In Carol Stream, all but 3 COVID deaths in the city are from a single nursing home In Burr Ridge, all but 4 COVID deaths in the city are from a single nursing home. In Willowbrook, all but 3 COVID deaths are from a single nursing home.

There are some DuPage cities where it appears that 100% of the COVID deaths are from nursing homes ... Hinsdale, Lombard, Oak Brook. Lisle.

Also, 100% of all COVID deaths in Itasca are from a single nursing home.

And while we're in DuPage County, it's worth pointing out that hospital admissions for COVID have been dropping steadily for 3 weeks now and are now a third of what they were 3 weeks ago.

And that rate might even be lower, but we're waiting for the weekend reporting effect to settle in by tomorrow. But it's safe to say that hospitals in DuPage are now admitting fewer than 10 COVID patients per day, down from a high of nearly 40.

One last note on DuPage ... The county is now averaging fewer than 10 COVID deaths per day. And if we know roughly 80% of deaths are from nursing homes, that means just 2 people per day are dying from COVID who don't live in a nursing home in DuPage, a county of 1 million.

And since they are closed systems, while tragic, their death toll numbers should not be included with the overall numbers, for determination and continuation of this farcical shutdown.

Yes. We're using "nursing home" to represent any short-term or long-term assisted living facility. It's what state officials are calling "congregate care settings".
