8/ Now googling "long thread zerk fittings"...without much success.

9/ I guess I could always center drill a 1/4 x 28 bolt and then cut off the head and machine a zerk fitting from the material on the shaft. GAHHHHHHH

11/ F it, Dude, let's go bowling. Put the !@#-ed up wheel back on, going to ask Cub Cadet for a new one under "manufacturing errors" clause in warranty (which may or may not be expired). If that fails, I'll just shell out $100 for a new wheel. :-/

12/ Now that I've got a bit of distance, aside from running into a manufacturing defect, things went well: * oil changed * oil filter changed * fuel filter changed * 1 tire replaced * all 4 tires filled * lube points lubed * one stray bolt tightened * 3 blades sharpened
