Side note: I read complex things to gain information, but when I read for enjoyment, I tend to read embarrassingly simplistic works. It’s like a brain massage instead of brain yoga. Could I do better? Sure, but sometimes I just want soda.

Mass market wants a well-known and not overly-challenging meme plus a TV-like ("lean back and think of England") experience. A good read is like a good workout: impossible to "binge watch".
