2/ From years of running firms, I don't ASSUME everything is going OK. I also don't ASK people "hey is everything going OK?" I sneak out and WATCH them and see if they're struggling / if the process has bugs. This process had bugs. Did some training & bought new saw chains.

3/ I'm rebooting my process from a few years back, where I have three drawers for chains in my shop. * known good * known dull * presumed F-ed My half of the process is to sharpen and move things from drawer 2 -> 1 Farmhands pull from 1, put in 2 or 3.

4/ I can pull things from 3 and either push out rivets, replace defects, respin a new rivet, sharpen, etc. Or, perhaps a more Morlock-style plan... buy a 5 ton power hammer and make damascus knives by forge welding old chainsaw chains together.

5/ ayep. I have my choice between (a) overqualified, but has massive boundary issues, kind of a flake on showing up, and passive aggressive, or (b) hard worker, reliable, heart is in the right place...and needs a fair bit of training. 'b' it is then. https://twitter.com/jan30982573/status/991016681303666688 …
