Speaking of more questions than answers, one thing I noted in the books is that the actual dogs themselves were very sparsely described (unless I was seriously missing something). It was hard to get a clear idea of which breed each one was. Was that intentional?

Regardless, the fact that I couldn't figure out what each dog looked like actually allowed me to simply imagine *my* dogs in their place, which automatically made me care about them a LOT more. So that actually worked in the book's favor, from this readers' perspective.
