OwnCloud is self-hostable and claims to have good file sync/share/edit support. (Disclaimer: I have never actually used it.)

My own solution is to homebrew SSH/SFTP solutions, but I'm a maniac who does systems administration for fun.

There's owncloud and a fork of it nextcloud, which I use. I ditched my google cloud use a few months ago. However, by itself it doesn't have the Doc&spreadsheet functions. Collabora provide that, but not open-source or free.

My compromise is to use Markdown (which is supported in nextcloud) instead of google docs. For spreadsheet, I run libreoffice on a desktop opening & saving files via DAV urls, which is really slick.
