I don't want public school teachers to talk about their same sex lovers. I don't want public school teachers to talk about their savior, Jesus. I don't want public school teachers to talk about their child in the Marines killing jihadis or in the Peace Corp. Teach the subject. https://twitter.com/popelizbet/status/979433520375435264 …

2/ I actively support a teacher getting fired for talking about her sexual orientation. I also actively support a teacher getting fired for talking about Jesus. Public schools are monopolies, which we are forced - at gun point - to pay for. Let's keep them ideology free.

Having a wife you don't treat as a secret is not talking about your sexual orientation.

It's not that I think spouses, Jesus, Allah, The Marine Corp, or the Peace Corp are secrets. It's that teachers don't get paid to talk about it, and they should stay on topic, especially re topics that some consider sensitive. >>>

I can see where "my family" is on topic in elementary art class: I brought home a bunch of "my family" pictures, family trees, etc around that age. But if you're willing for all teachers to act like they don't have spouses, that's one way to be fair, even if I think it's a lot.

yep; it would be hypocritical for me to say "oh, hetero families get to talk".

I had a teacher want me to note my whole family as adopted, basically said "lol no" but it didn't go anywhere. It was a closed adoption! I don't know those other people at all.

Family trees in school are an area where I think that sensitivity plays a role, and - once again - the best approach is not to have it in school. Adoptions, foster kids, kids with parents in prison and living w grandparents, remarriages, divorces.... some kids get embarrassed >>

...and thus I think that the best thing to do is skip the exercise.

agreed. ... but history must play a part here. why is a Family Tree part of public education? ... my friend's daughter was perfectly happy to state the facts. It was her mother that had a huge problem.
