The problem is that public schools are a monopoly, and parents have to pay for them no matter what. If we had vouchers or some other system with a variety of schools, there could be a variety of approaches.

(Didn't read the article) I don't consider it a problem if teachers happen to mention, offhandedly, that they are married or have families or like to go swimming or live across the county line. Teachers are humans, not textbooks made flesh. Students are humans too. Humans talk.
