/ I have plans to upgrade the 42" wide "pro grade" (i.e. stainless-clad piece of crap) with a Wolf / Viking / etc. - either a 60" double oven, or two 30" singles, side by side. Problem is: that's $8k for the ovens and $2-4k to remove / replace / move cabinets.

/ So: $~10-12k, all in. I actually DO have that on hand...but I was going to use it to pay down the mortgage in a week or so. REALLY don't want to splurge on luxuries until I've "bought the farm" (heh).

/ I think that I'll end up doing is: (a) shuffle the menu plan so I don't have to bake anything for a few weeks (b) throw this oven in the dumpster (c) buy a used oven off of Craigslist for $200, or a new one from Lowes for $400. (d) do the mondo-oven upgrade in 3-4 years

/ My calculation is this: if I can avoid spending $10k for 3 or 4 or 5 years, until that point where I WANT to spend it, at a cost of ~$400, I'm effectively "borrowing" $10k from the future at a certain cost. It breaks down to a standard interst calc. https://twitter.com/mshpitsoccermom/status/977684445003243520 …

/ Yep, this is another thought I've got. The "pop" sure sounded like a big capacitor. And I've got a soldering station, a selection of capactiors, a desolderer, etc. OTOH, I've been down this road before where a busted cap actually damages board...https://twitter.com/moddedLimes/status/977684146268065792 …

/ ...and worse than buying a new oven for $500 is FIRST wasting a few hours taking apart an oven, removing the board, desoldering a cap, replacing it, reinstalling it, having wonky behavior for a month, having the oven die again, and THEN spending $500 on a new oven.

No problem for you meeester self sufficient prepper king! You're probably right... a second hand oven will probably be cheaper than the the board.
