4/ I've wanted to write science fiction novels since I stumbled across Heinlein's The Red Planet in 2nd grade. ...but now, knowing that this award existed, I had an infinitely higher goal: to write a novel good enough to be nominated.

6/ A few days ago I learned that it had gone to the next step: out of the 15 or 20 or whatever nominated novels, The Powers of the Earth has been selected as one of the five finalists.
