4/ Maple syrup: second and final batch for the year. Over the weekend boiled down 60 or so gallons of maple sap to 5 gallons of concentrate. Now, to boil that down to 1 gallon of syrup (2 gallons total this year).pic.twitter.com/27SBK97UJL
5/ Great question! Very little. Wood is insanely energy dense. Maybe three armloads to boil away 50 gallons of water?https://twitter.com/Dave_DelFavero/status/984237038881988610?s=19 …
6/ And, as long term tweeps know, I have no shortage of firewood.pic.twitter.com/gEU3d5PSch
7/ Final boil finished. 1 gal + 1 cup (17 cups total) of maple syrup Each of those small jars (1 cup) represents about three gallons of tree sap, boiled down at least 45:1.pic.twitter.com/sTqAF3NOkz
This was my question - I guess the yield would vary year to year, but how many trees is that?
I have been wondering, can maple sap be fermented? My Google-fu hasn't turned up anything.
Was about to ask Travis the same thing. Mead is easy; why do we not hear much of real maple liquors?
