1Progs are incapable of groking analogies. "I don't want to infringe your rights; I just want to make guns illegal. Guns aren't a right." me: "I don't want to infringe your rights; I just want to make gay sex illegal. Gay sex isn't a right....is this valid? GUNS AREN'T SEX!!!

2/ me: yes, I know guns aren't gay sex. I'm making an analogy. prog: no, that's a bad analogy. It's two totally different things. You can't fire bullets from gay sex. me: well, if you want to go there, you can spread HIV that way prog: THAT IS SO OFFENSIVE !!!!!!!!

3/ me: ok, I'm making rational analogies, and you're saying that you're offended. That's not an argument; that's an emotion. You're upset that I stepped on your taboo prog: no, I'm rational. I'm not emotional. But how do you expect people to react when you say something taboo?

5/ Then they try to double down on the I-don't-follow-this-strange-concept-of-analogy by explaining, bit by bit, how gay people are not, I don't know, made of anodized aluminum, or something.

6/ I'm a libertarian. I want nothing to do w gays or anal sex or fabulous fashion shows, or whatever, but I'm totally down with my flying my freak flag here and them flying their freak flag there, and it's all good. ... ... ...but...

7/ The more I deal with these !@# damned progs who see freedom as a ratchet - they can make up random rights in emanations and penumbras that were cast by a passing blade of grass yesterday afternoon, but I can't have 500 year old Anglo American rights....

8/ I get more and more tempted to get my Duarte on. "You, you, you - traitors. Death squads for you. Death squads for ALL OF YOU."

9/ I resist that. Because THAT WOULD BE WRONG. ...but God damn these people. They're perfectly content to vote for politicians and policies that would make me an outlaw and subject me to deadly governmental force...and I'm supposed to just sit and take it?

It wouldn't be intrinsically wrong. You have a primary duty to protect your own right to life, and the lives of your family against deadly external force.

absolutely agreed. The point I'm making is that I will refuse to let myself become, say, anti-gay, or anti- whatever just to punish them with tit-for-tat. I will hold onto my guns no matter what. ...and if that means helicopters, so be it.

Understood. That a mark of integrity, but you're accepting their frame.
