saints are not God or angels - they're just dead people. Doesn't remotely implicate mono vs poly

We just ask the saints to intercede on our behalf with the Divine.

Like asking the demigods to intercede with Zeus or the Roman household gods to intercede with Jupiter? :) No, I get that *you* have a theological justification for why it's still monotheism. It's just not persuasive to us.

No. They don’t have powers and cavort about in loincloths. They’re souls of the dead.

Who interact with the living at least in terms of having performed miracles after death (like demigods) and monitor for prayers directed towards them, based on which they can take certain actions.

Saints do not perform miracles. God performs miracles.

Replying to @MorlockP @BostonDelendEst and
" miracles are considered proof that the person is in heaven and can intercede for us"

What about the Virgin Mary cult aspect of things? E.g., https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/christian-girls-who-barely-escaped-isis-credit-mary-for-their-safety-33101 …pic.twitter.com/9JVYglSpek

That's very poorly phrased. Priests can be imbeciles (as you know from seeing our "pope"). They can also speak colloquially, which is somewhat less bad. I would never phrase things this way.

My sense of things -- as an outsider -- is that especially in Latin/Eastern European Churches, there's a lot of this Cult of the Virgin stuff. & more often than not, the implication (at least) is that she's an independent actor w/ her own powers/will. /1
