this gets into the same "what does 'god' mean" issue that annoying atheists trip over with the "one less god" thing is anyone you pray to a god? is asking for something praying? do you pray to your boss for a raise, thus worshiping him?

Yes, per snow crash, Judaism is monolatrist, not monotheist. "Thou shalt not have any other god before me" != "There are no other gods". But we don't pray to any other entity.

we communicate with the dead; we do not worship them or glorify them. The use of the word "pray" both for communication with the dead AND to communication with God is admittedly unnecessarilly stupid / confusing
