So... why should we ban gay conversion therapy again? I mean, I don't think it's a good thing. But the two rationales I hear for it are "it doesn't work" and "it's harmful". And we would reject those as rationales for other things, at least individually.

"It doesn't work" applies equally well to chiropractors, crystal therapy, and other forms of alternative medicine. And where it enters into the realm of self-harm, we permit all other sorts of controversial things. So I don't think those work as rationales.

(This is why I'll never run for office. Everyone will be talking about combating the opiod epidemic and I'll be over here saying "uhhhhhh actually we should decriminalize heroin".)
