our apple trees aren't bearing yet, but we use the pumpkin patch to stretch hog feed. Maybe 5-10lbs / day ?

I'm feeding them about 1-2 each per day. They love it, and it will stretch the pumpkin supplies until slaughtering time (maybe the week after Christmas).

next year wouldn't mind growing 2x as many pumpkins, to reduce feed bill

I smash the pumpkins w a hammer for pigs. Takes 10 seconds. I like growing pumpkins over, say, corn, or wheat, bc no specialized equipment, easy to harvest, grows a LOT of material per dollar of seed, and raccoons ignore them (unlike corn, which they strip bare).
