I think the limiting factor is how quickly the saturated soil can move water 5 feet horizontally over to the buried gravel and pipe.

The area to the right of the fence is nicely dry now. In the past, it'd be under 2-3" of water.

It's not ALL wallow. Wallow is an area of mud, and their wallow is about 50 feet away from the area in this pic.
