The AD&D DM Guide introduced THAC0 in 1979, but most know it from 2nd ed. from post-Gygax TSR in 1989 because they 86'd the tables.
naw, THAC0 wasn't in DMG. Can't be. I had that book mostly memorized.
It wasn't called by name, just conceptually. 2nd ed. just did away with the tables and named it.
right; this was in the wake of 1ed. Written in 1986, published in 1987 AD&D 2nd Edition was published in 1989.
