naw, THAC0 wasn't in DMG. Can't be. I had that book mostly memorized.
It wasn't called by name, just conceptually. 2nd ed. just did away with the tables and named it.
right; this was in the wake of 1ed. Written in 1986, published in 1987 AD&D 2nd Edition was published in 1989.
Shave a couple corners off the tables and you've got homebrew THAC0. You're a good example of that actually. It's the roots.
Conceptually, nothing really changes. It just a simplification of Gygax's math, so you don't have to have 4 separate books open at once.
2nd ed. didn't teach me anything I wasn't already doing for combat.
