...but then I also put 12' wide gates connecting front 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. So many permutations possible.

using = to mean "connect" * stall 1, 2, 3 everything * s1 = 1, s2 = 2, s3 = 3 * s1 & s2 = 1 & 2, s3 = 3 etc.

one clever thing I did is picking gate sizes that are equal to stall widths, spacing posts exactly 12' from barn. Created a grid.

e.g. gate #2 can have 4 positions: * left * straight * right * removed

ANYWAY today I took a break and picked rocks out of front-2, and while doing so noticed TONS of sheep manure.

and thought "this is nutrient rich stuff! Why am trucking in manure for corn field when I can grow corn here?"

(this isn't a completely new idea; the system was designed with this in mind! ...but the piles of manure really brought it home)

so I think I'm going to use the gate to block front-2 off from all three stalls, rototill it w tractor, and plany my corn in there.

(grumble grumble grumble) so ANYWAY, I've been wanting to institute crop rotation for a while now (we already do in raised garden beds)

there are various schemes, but the minimum seems to be 4 crop areas that rotate. Since I doubled the size of pumpkin patch last yr >

I can now count that as two. Add in front-2 and that's three. Add in crappy-too-much-sand corn field from last year, and that's four.
