SCOTUS' job is to read and apply the constitution, not to bend the law randomly to reach outcomes progs like.https://twitter.com/KamalaHarris/status/845285770176991232 …

There's lots of outcomes I'd like that the Constitution does not support. I'd rather that we just reliably, predictably followed the Const.

Kegan talks about 5 stages of development, including moral / legalistic / tribal development.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kegan …

Lots of folks are stuck on stage 3, tribal. "I want SCOTUS to decide in favor my tribe! THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE FOR !!!"

Stage 4 is better. "OK, maybe my tribe shouldn't win EVERY SINGLE court case. I accept that principles (e.g. Freedom of Speech) are good"

Stage 5 is best: good rights sometimes come in conflict. Principles mean, e.g. that freedom of speech might be trumped by property rights.

Every time you see someone screeching about how SCOTUS should treat their own tribe best, you're looking at a level 3 thinker.

It happens on both left and right. Left wants the gays to win any conflict. Right wants veterans to win.

e.g. I hate, hate, HATE the BS stuff you see at Drudge. "Terrible condo complex forcing veteran to take down his American flag!!!"

Did the dude sign a rental agreement? Did the rental agreement say 'no flags'? Case closed. Doesn't matter if I left veterans or not.
